Meanings :

1.  Nutrients: The different components of food that are required by our body.

2.  Nutrition: Mode of taking in food by an organism and its utilization by the body.

3.  Autotrophs: Organisms that prepare their own food. E.g – green plants.

4.  Heterotrophs: Organisms that depend on other organisms for their food. Example – animals.

6.  Chlorophyll: The green pigment in leaves that captures the energy of the sunlight.

7.  Photosynthesis: The process by which green plants prepare their food from carbon-dioxide and water in the presence of sunlight.

9.  Parasite: The organism that derives nutrition from the body of other living organisms. Example: cuscuta plant.

10.  Insectivorous plants: Insect eating plants. Example -pitcher plant.

11.  Saprotrophs: Organisms that derives nutrition from dead and decaying matter. Example- fungi
