GRAMMAR (Message Writing):

Points:

  • Mention the time and date when the message is written.
  • Give a Salutation for e.g. Dear father/Uncle
  • Message should be given in a box.
  • Give only important points, do not add any other information.
  • Put the signature at the end of the message.
  • Abbreviations and symbols can be used. for e.g. M.D.(Managing Director)

2. Read the following telephonic conversation and write the message in 50 words.

Dilip : Hello! Is that Sunil

Sunil    : Oh! Hello, Dilip. When did you come back from the hostel?

Dilip  : just yesterday and I am leaving tomorrow. So, why don’t you come over to my place. I am impatiently waiting for you.

Sunil      : I can’t come right away as my parents have gone out and they don’t have the keys of the house with them.

Dilip   : Why don’t leave the keys at a neighbour’s place?

Sunil      : Ok. I’m coming to you in half an hour.

Sunil decides to leave the keys and a message for his parents. Write this message for Sunil.

2. Sherya has the following conversation with her father’s friends. Since, she has to go out immediately afterwards and won’t be able to meet her father till late in the evening, she decides to leave a message for him. As Sherya write this message in about 50 words. Put the message in a box.

Mr. Gupta : Hello! May I speak to Mr. Jain, please?

Shreya       : Good evening, uncle. I’m afraid dad is not at home.

Mr.Gupta  : Well, I was supposed to meet him today in the evening but I’ll not be able to make it, as I have to go out for an important meeting. However , I’m free tomorrow. Ask your papa to call me up so that the meeting can be fixed for tomorrow.

Shreya      : Sure uncle, I’ll convey the message.

Mr. Gupta  : Thank you.bye.

1. Read the following telephonic conversation between Sheela and Raghav. The call was for Raghav’s sister Rani. As Raghav was going out immediately, he left a message. Write the message in not more than 50 words. Put the message in box.

Sheela : Hello! Could I speak to Rani.

Raghav : May I know who is speaking? Rani has gone out. This is her brother Raghav speaking.

Sheela : I am her friend, Sheela. Could you tell her that one of our friend, Tina has met with an accident and is admitted in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.

Raghav : Oh, how unfortunate.

Sheela : Tell her that I am leaving for the hospital as the visiting hours are between 4pm to 6pm.

Raghav : I’ll definitely convey the news.

Sheela : also tell her to inform Roohani as I am not sure of her telephone number.

Raghav : I’ll do that.

Sheela  : Thank you.

 

2. David rang up Lalit’s residence to leave an important message. As Mr. Lalit was not at home , he left the message with his brother John. John was also going out for a movie, so he decided to write the message for his brother. Read the conversation given below and write the message in not more than 50 words.

David : Hello! Is it Lalit’s Residence.

John   : Yes, it is.

David : Can I talk to Mr. Lalit?

John  : Sorry, he is not at home. May I know who is on the line.

David : I am David, a friend of his.

John : Would you like me to convey a message.

David : Yes,please  inform him that the meeting with the board scheduled for 5th October has been postponed to the 7th. So he can reach Delhi by 6th evening. The inconvenience is regretted.

John : I will surely convey this message to him.

David : Thank you.
