Ans: Living standard means the level of living of people at which they live. If they live in hygienic  conditions enjoying all the comforts of life, it means their living standard is high. On the contrary if they are bound to live in filthy surroundings and drink polluted water and eat unhygienic food it means they lead  a low standard of living. Public health refers to the health of the general public.

2.  What are the different ways through which the government can take steps to provide a healthcare for all. Discuss .
Ans:
The government can take steps to provide healthcare for all by :
i) Increasing the number of hospitals, healthcare centres and family welfare centres.
ii) Organising free camps for check up of general public.
iii) Organising pulse polio campaigns.
iv) Spreading health awareness among common people through different  workshops, seminars and training camps can also prove to be effective ways.

3.  What differences do you find between private  and public health in your areas? Use the following table to compare  and contrast these.

Ans: Polluted water is the cause of many diseases. Provision of clean drinking water, maintaining cleanliness and proper disposal of waste can help to improve the situation.
For example: in Delhi diseases are spread due to the faulty waste management practices. Mosquitoes breed on stagnant waters causing malaria and dengue. Sewage treatment plants can clean the lakes and drain the canals.

5.  What do people in a democratic country expect the government.
Ans: The people in a democratic country expect the government to work for their welfare.
