Ans: The farmer brought a baby mongoose into the house because he wanted a pet for his son and when his son grows up, then the mongoose can become his companion.

Ans: The farmer’s wife did not want to leave the baby alone with the mongoose because the mongoose had grown up to its full size and the baby was still a  baby.  She felt that the mongoose would harm her baby.

Ans: The farmer told his wife that the mongoose was a friendly animal. It was as sweet as his baby and they are the best of friends. So the mongoose will not harm the baby.

Ans: The farmer’s wife struck the mongoose with her basket because she saw blood on the mongoose’s  face and paws and thought that the mongoose had killed her baby.

Ans: She repented for her hasty action. She cried touching the mongoose and stared at the dead mongoose.
