Ans: Kalpana Chawla was born in Karnal, Haryana. She was called Indian American because neutralized American citizen..

She went to America  after completing her Bachelors degree in aeronautical engineering as she wanted to do her Master’s degree in aeronautical engineering in America.

iii. How did she become an astronaut? What gave her the idea that she could be an astronaut?

She became an astronaut by earning her Ph.D in aerospace engineering and was selected by NASA. She could fly single and multi engine land airplanes and sea planes and gliders.

iv. What abilities must an astronaut have, according to the journalist?

Her first shuttle mission in space Columbia was  for 15 days. She went 252 times round the earth. It had a Japanese and Ukranian crew.
