MEANINGS/ DEFINATIONS:

  • Fraction: A fraction is a number representing a part of a whole or is an operation on a number.
  • Denominator: It is the number of equal parts into which the whole has been divided. Eg. where 12 is the Denominator
  • Numerator: It is the number of equal parts which has been taken out from the whole. Eg. where 5 is the numerator.
  • Proper fraction : A fraction in which the numerator is lesser than the denominator.
  • Improper fraction: A fraction in which the numerator is bigger than the denominator.
  • Mixed fraction: A mixed fraction has a combination of a whole and a part. E.g. 2
  • Equivalent fraction : Two fractions are said to be equivalent if they represent the same quantity.
  • Like fractions: Fractions with same denominators are called like fractions.
  • Unlike fraction: Fractions with different denominators are called unlike fractions.
