Answer the following questions :

1.  How have helicopters and satellites proved useful and helpful to mankind?
Ans:
  Helicopters have proved useful in times of calamities like rescuing people and distributing clothes, food  and medicines. Satellites are proved helpful in oil exploration, survey of forests, weather forecast and disaster warning.

2.  What conditions are necessary for an ideal site?
Ans:
  An ideal site should have favourable climate, water should be available, the land should be suitable, and the soil should be fertile.

3.  What sort of houses were built in the rural areas?
Ans: 
Where the rainfall was heavy , the people built houses with slanting roofs . In places where the rainwater accumulates the houses are constructed on a raised platform or stilts.

4.  What are the two types of waterways?
Ans: 
The two types of waterways are inland waterways and sea routes.  Navigable rivers and lakes are used as inland waterways. Sea routes are mostly used for transporting merchandise and goods from one country to another. These routes are connected with the ports.

5.  Write a short note on railways in India.
Ans:
  Diesel and electric engines have replaced the steam engines. In places, super fast trains have been introduced to make journey faster. Railway lines have been laid in difficult mountain terrains also. Indian railway network is well developed. It is the largest in Asia. The railways carry heavy goods and people over long distances quickly and cheaply .
